North Lanarkshire is seeking to appoint an Independent Chair for their Adult and Child Protection Committees. As Chair, you will ensure the Committees fulfil their duties in accordance with national legislation and guidance, contribute to service development and practice improvement, and undertake associated responsibilities and functions including providing the Chief Officers Group with assurance on the effectiveness of local systems and inter-agency working in relation to adult and child protection services.

You will also represent the partnership in national fora linking with the Scottish Government to ensure we continue to participate in, inform, and are informed on national developments. We are seeking a highly motivated and credible individual with proven leadership abilities to convene both Committees and ensure they fulfil their statutory obligations, compliance with national guidance, and promote high standards in public protection.

You should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of the national context and developments in relation to Adult and Child Protection and their interconnection with the wider public protection agenda. You will work closely with local leadership and key partners including Police and NHS Lanarkshire. The role involves hybrid working with a mix of remote and face-to-face meeting requirements.

The Chair requires to provide strong strategic leadership underpinned by the promotion of positive outcomes for children and adults consistent with GIRFEC/GIRFE principles with a commitment to continuous improvement. The role is pivotal to each of the Committees fulfilling their remit for co-ordination, planning, improvement, and public engagement for the purposes of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults in North Lanarkshire and will also be critical to supporting the oversight functions of the Chief Officer Public Protection Group, including with respect to Learning Reviews.

You must have substantial experience of working at a senior, strategic, and operational level, demonstrate strong interpersonal and analytical skills, and have a successful track record in strategy, service improvement, and public sector governance processes. You should also be able to evidence a sound understanding of relevant legislation, guidance, policy, and practice within which the Adult and Child Protection Committees operate.

You should be educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification and be able to evidence continuous professional development throughout your career. You will require to be a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme for both Adults and Children.
