As we deliver The Plan for North Lanarkshire and drive transformational change, it is vital that we communicate our ambition and achievements effectively and that service delivery is aligned to the Council’s vision. The Senior Strategic Communications Manager is responsible for leading the council’s communications, media, content and campaigns activity, engaging with and enabling participation across the North Lanarkshire Partnership, communities and Community Boards and providing professional, strategic advice to the Chief Executive, Corporate Management Team and elected members on all matters of internal and external communications.
Additionally, the role oversees a broad remit of corporate activities which include the council’s brand, identity and digital presence and supporting the effective delivery of The Plan for North Lanarkshire through communication and engagement at a corporate level, ensuring that all messaging is inclusive, accessible and reflective of North Lanarkshire’s diverse communities. Leading teams to create strategic campaigns that change social behaviour, drive sales, participation and memberships or that engage key individuals and community groups with services and programmes to improve their outcomes, are core activities.
The post holder will also lead on crisis communications, contribute to the promotion of the wider strategy and performance of the council and forge strategic partnerships internally and with partners to ensure effective communication. Educated to degree standard in a relevant discipline, the ideal successful candidate will be dynamic, strategic and have a strong track record in leading communications and marketing teams, managing high-profile media stories and corporate strategy, working collaboratively with partners and delivering multi-channel campaigns through engaging and compelling content.

You will be joining a dynamic and flexible team who currently operate a hybrid working model of home-working and office-based working at the Civic Centre in Motherwell. Please note, as part of your duties and responsibilities, you will be required to participate in the Council Incident Officer standby rota, which will require you to be on standby out of office hours, for a period of one week, approximately four times a year. For this, you will receive payment in line with the Council’s Conditions of Service and full training will be provided.
