At North Lanarkshire Council, we are delivering ambitious plans to drive inclusive growth and improve outcomes for our communities. Our Internal Audit team plays a key role in supporting this by providing the assurance and insight that underpins this work. We are looking for an experienced, dedicated and highly motivated Internal Auditor to join our well-regarded Internal Audit team responsible for providing a comprehensive, efficient and effective internal audit service across the Council.
Working across a wide range of services, you will undertake a varied programme of audit work that provides independent, professional assurance to senior management, helping to ensure that the Council’s framework of governance, risk management and internal control remains robust and effective. In this role, you will plan and deliver assignments from start to finish, including identifying key risks and controls, developing appropriate testing approaches, evaluating evidence and producing clear, well-structured reports with practical, proportionate recommendations.
You will engage confidently with colleagues at all levels, building constructive relationships whilst providing robust, professional challenge where required. The ability to work independently, manage competing demands and deliver to agreed timescales will be of significant benefit in this role. Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have significant experience in an audit or financial environment, preferably within the public sector.
You will have a strong understanding of governance, risk and control frameworks and the ability to analyse complex information and reach sound, evidence-based conclusions. You will be an effective communicator with strong report writing skills, capable of presenting your findings clearly to support and influence positive change. A relevant professional qualification, such as CCAB or IIA (or progress towards one), is desirable.
You will join a supportive and forward-thinking team committed to continuous improvement and delivering a high-quality internal audit service in line with the Global Internal Audit Standards. The role offers hybrid working, with a base at the Civic Centre in Motherwell, and the opportunity to work across diverse services, providing insight that directly supports the delivery of vital public services.
If you are motivated by public service and are looking for a role where your work will have a real impact across a large and complex organisation, we would welcome your application.
