An exciting opportunity has arisen for a high performing and experienced manager to lead our Engineering team. North Lanarkshire is Scotland’s fourth largest authority by population and is perfectly situated in the heart of Scotland’s central belt with great transport links making this the perfect place to live and work!

As part of our leadership team, you will work with a variety of partners, customers and clients on the delivery of a professional service that maximises resources and delivers positive outcomes. In this exciting and key leadership role you will lead the Engineering service, which encompasses the Scope and Standards, Bridge Engineering, and Water Management teams.

You will be responsible for the development and delivery of a wide range of infrastructure and transportation projects, ensuring legislative compliance and the ongoing development of the service. You will be responsible for the delivery of substantial programmes of work in line with The Plan for North Lanarkshire and fulfilling the Council’s statutory obligations. These will include management of the Council’s bridge and road structures stock, reservoir management, strategic flood risk management, and providing technical advice to other Council departments and developers.

To be a success in this role you will have demonstrated leadership skills, be innovative, solution focused, and influential. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality services to our citizens and communities and promoting the Council’s vision, values and reputation.

You will have a degree in civil engineering or equivalent in a relevant discipline, and chartered membership of an appropriate professional organisation which is registered with the Engineering Council. You will possess substantial knowledge and experience within a relevant field. You must have a proven track record of delivering projects and service priorities, including the ability to achieve project milestones and targets.

You must be able to demonstrate proven experience of developing successful working relationships with contractors and professional service providers and in NEC contract management. You will have demonstrable experience in planning, tracking, and communicating progress on projects. You will also have capital and revenue budgetary experience including preparation, monitoring and control arrangements.

You will be business and customer focused with a demonstrable record of identifying opportunities, achieving outcomes, managing change, and exercising strong leadership skills. You will be self-motivated with a flexible and collaborative approach to work and have the ability to cope with multiple and changing demands whilst meeting tight deadlines.

You will also have a sound understanding and knowledge of legislation and initiatives within the relevant disciplines. With excellent organisational and IT skills, you will be able to utilise various Microsoft Office packages, and be a clear written and verbal communicator, with the ability to analyse information and produce reports and with experience of presenting information in public forums.

You must be able to travel throughout North Lanarkshire and out with this area to undertake the duties of this post. In line with the Council’s hybrid working policy, this role is a hybrid working role, with a combination of site visits, office attendance and home working.
