To enable our ambition, the Council spends circa £700m per annum on required supplies, services and works from external partners. The Council's Corporate Procurement Team plays an instrumental role in procuring requirements whilst enabling best practice and delivering best value.

You will be joining a Procurement Team which strives for excellence in service delivery, therefore the Council requires a highly motivated individual who is well organised, has excellent communication skills and is able to work as part of a team and organise/prioritise their own workload. You should have experience using office applications and purchase to pay systems and are able to analyse complex data and produce reports.

In this role as an Assistant Procurement Officer, you will have responsibility for the support and administration of the procurement function, reporting into the management team. Areas of focus will be:

  • Data collation
  • Reporting
  • Support for policy making
  • Event co-ordination
  • Other support for the main function of the team in the procurement/tendering of goods, services and works contracts and purchase to pay processes

The team also plays a key role in driving sustainable outcomes from all the Council’s procurement activity. You will ideally have experience in a commercial environment, have an awareness of purchase to pay processes and will be developed to support tender activity including:

  • Preparation of contract notices
  • Preparation of tender packs
  • Administering tender process
  • Tender evaluation
  • Preparation of contract award notifications with debrief information

You will have an awareness of the relevant legislation, regulations, and governance applicable to public sector procurement, including the Council's own governance arrangements for procurement activity.

Although no formal qualification is required, working towards CIPS accreditation and/or an SVQ level 3 qualification in a procurement or related discipline would be desirable. Further opportunities to develop your procurement knowledge and expertise will be made available to the successful candidate.

Work pattern: 35 hours per week - Monday - Thursday: 08:45 - 16:45 (including a 55 minute unpaid break); Friday: 08:45 - 16:15 (including a 50 minute unpaid break).
