An exciting opportunity is available within Buchanan High School, Coatbridge to support children who have a broad range of additional support needs. As an Enhanced Support Assistant, you will work with children who have additional support needs, some of whom have needs of a severe or complex nature, to support them in their school environment. This involves children and young people with more complex health care needs.

Enhanced Support Assistants have a key role in leading training and development within the wider support team. There will be additional training opportunities and key responsibilities identified through discussions with line managers and in line with the council’s overall objectives. Successful candidates may be required to support the training and development of staff in their own establishment and in the wider cluster. This will require an element of flexibility for staff to travel to other schools within the cluster if required.

Successful applicants will be required to commit to completing an SVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People – Social Care within 3 years of taking up the post. There will also be a requirement to undertake necessary trainings identified by our NHS partners. Recent experience working with children in a school situation is essential, as are good communication and interpersonal relationship skills. Experience of working with children/young people who have additional needs is essential. Prior to commencing in this role you are required to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member.

Work pattern: Monday to Friday, 5.5 hours per day between 8.30am - 4.30pm.
