An exciting opportunity has arisen within North Lanarkshire Council’s Community Operations division for an experienced professional to join our Regulatory Services function as Assistant Trading Standards Manager.
The Role
Reporting to the Business Manager (Regulatory Services), you will lead the strategic and operational delivery of Trading Standards services, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and contributing to the Council’s priorities. The service delivers enforcement and advisory functions across legal metrology, fair trading, consumer product safety, age restricted sales, animal health and welfare and licensing. You will act as the Council’s Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures and provide leadership to ensure effective service delivery, performance management and continuous improvement. You will also contribute to policy development, service planning and partnership working at local and national level.
Regulatory Services
Regulatory Services is a newly established function bringing together services from across Protective Services and the Built Environment, including Trading Standards, Environmental Health and Building Standards. This supports a more integrated and strategic approach to regulation, strengthening resilience, supporting compliance and improving outcomes for communities and businesses across North Lanarkshire.
What We Are Looking For
You will hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Trading Standards or an equivalent professional qualification and have significant experience in the delivery of Trading Standards services. You will demonstrate:
- Experience of leading and managing a Trading Standards service
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and enforcement practice
- Experience of service planning, performance management and reporting
- Ability to contribute to strategic development and organisational priorities
- Effective communication and partnership working skills
A current driving licence is essential.
