Polaris Education is seeking a part-time One-to-one Teaching Assistant for 2 days per week (Tuesday/Friday) at North Lakes Herdley Bank School.

Basic Salary: £21,292.04- 52-week £24,824.80, hourly rate £12.40, pro-rata Actual Salary: £8,295.60

Contract: Term-time only, 15 hours per week, 12-month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Haltwhistle, Northumberland

The Role: North Lakes Children's Services is a well-established local provider of residential care and education for boys aged 7-18. As a One-to-one Teaching Assistant, you will enhance the learning of pupils with a wide range of special educational and learning needs, supporting teaching staff in enabling pupils to gain independence and participate fully in the curriculum.

Duties Will Include:

  • Supporting pupils in 1:1, in groups or in classroom situations, lunch and break times, and unstructured/social times
  • Accompanying pupils on organised school visits as appropriate
  • Assisting with the development of social skills and appropriate behaviour of pupils
  • Participating in the development, delivery and monitoring of individual programmes
  • Assisting in the support of pupils who can respond with challenging behaviour
  • Keeping accurate records as required by the school
  • Collaborative planning with teaching staff to ensure effective use of support
  • Supporting the delivery of the Key Stage 2 and 3 curriculum map
  • Being involved in working groups where appropriate
  • Attending weekly staff meetings and relevant INSET/CPD events

All Applicants Must Have:

  • Relevant experience in a similar environment or appropriate qualifications
  • Academic qualifications to at least GCSE standard, professional qualifications to at least NVQ Level 2, or proven competency in a similar role
  • Basic first aid knowledge
  • Ability to work on own initiative with high accuracy and maintain clear records
  • Good time management skills and flexibility to meet demands
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to operate as a team member
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training for personal development
  • Relevant knowledge of child development and understanding of different learning methods
  • Knowledge of ACEs or childhood trauma would be beneficial; training will be available
  • Access to a vehicle and full driving licence
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check if successful

Benefits: The role is term-time only, hours of work are 8.30am to 4.00pm Tuesday and Friday, 39 weeks with pupils plus 5.6 weeks holiday. Excellent training available.
