Overview

We are looking for an experienced Childrens Mental Health Practitioner to join our Central Basildon PCN for 12 months fixed term.

As part of the NHS long term plan, local areas were asked to realign community mental health services with primary care networks, creating new and integrated models of primary and community mental health care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage caseloads of children and young people (CYP) with mild to moderate mental health needs within the GP PCN.
  • Triage cases and complete full assessments, developing individual care plans and coordinating care pathways in line with agreed protocols.
  • Provide low intensity, evidence-based interventions and clinical support to CYP with mental health difficulties, including individual and group formats.
  • Deliver treatment in collaboration with GPs and other professionals, supporting engagement with appropriate services and onward referral to secondary mental health services when required.
  • Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.
  • Manage day-to-day personal workloads and contribute to service development and transformation within the PCN and Essex local child mental health system.
  • Work closely with the Service Manager and Clinical Lead, and participate in training opportunities and regular supervision.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a patient-facing role to assess and manage patients using expert knowledge.
  • Ensure adherence to departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Undertake triage and receive referrals from within the PCN and communicate effectively with patients, adapting communication methods to individual needs and backgrounds.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience delivering therapeutic interventions to children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs.
  • Experience in managing a clinical caseload and delivering therapeutic and low intensity interventions, with workload and waiting list management.
  • Ability to work with families and provide family-inclusive care as appropriate.

Contract and Working Arrangements

  • Role: CYP MH Practitioner for Central Basildon PCN, 12 months fixed term.
  • Location: Central Basildon PCN; some travel around the county for meetings or training; primarily based at GP practices within the PCN (list of practices provided in the original description).
  • Starting with NELFT and induction details: new starters join on the first Monday of each month for a comprehensive induction up to two weeks, including mandatory and systems training; induction held at the head office in Rainham, Essex.
  • Probationary period applies (internal applicants may be exempt in certain cases).
  • Subject to Sponsorship considerations under UKVI rules; eligibility should be checked.
  • High Cost Area Supplement: 5% of basic salary (minimum £1,303; maximum £2,198 per annum pro rata).

Support and Development

  • Opportunities for training and professional development with regular supervision and access to support via NELFT.
  • Support from locality Clinical Leads under guidance of the Clinical & Strategic Lead.
  • Development of PCN services in Essex through collaboration with service manager and clinical lead.
