Main duties of the job
You will be expected to:
- Work as part of multidisciplinary teams providing care to children and young people with mental health needs, across Canterbury.
- Provide senior medical support and guidance to the team.
- Work directly with young people and their families and liaise as appropriate with other external CAMHS mental health providers and acute hospitals.
- Participate in the on-call rota frequency is currently 1:14, with a 3% of basic salary, Category A on-call supplement.
- Support your peers and team leader, and be an effective team member whilst allowing them to work with their own initiative.
- Work alongside another full-time CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist and 0.5wte Specialty Doctor.
- Commit to collaborative working, actively supporting and liaising with other health and social professionals, and agencies.

Qualifications
Essential:
- CCT or equivalent.
- Section 12 Approval or eligibility for it. Approved Clinician status, or eligibility for it. Inclusion in, or eligibility for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCST.
Desirable:
- Masters or Doctorate degree. A management qualification. ECDL or equivalent qualification. Experience in strategic development.
Clinical Experience
Essential:
- Mastery in the management of a broad range of mental disorders under children including neurodevelopment disorders.
Desirable:
- Experience in managing patients from different cultural backgrounds. Working with interpreters and translators.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Extensive knowledge of the biological, psychological, and social determinants of mental health disorders and evidence-based management interventions.
- Up to date knowledge of recent DH documentation and NICE Guidelines.
- An understanding of Leadership and evidence of how this has been put into practice.
Desirable:
- An awareness of NHS Plan, NSF, and clinical governance priorities.
Clinical Skills
Essential:
- Excellent clinical skills.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written. Familiarity with a wide range of theoretical and clinical approaches.
Desirable:
- Clear thoughts on how to involve service users in service development and to provide a service which is experienced as being service-user friendly.
