Overview

Are you enthusiastic about enabling children and young people to participate in all areas of life as best they can? Do you have Band 6 or 7 experience of working in children\’s community services? Then we would love to hear from you!

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist. The Children’s Occupational Therapy Team are based in a purpose-built centre, co-located with many other health and local authority children’s services in Redbridge. Therapists have good access to clinical space as well as close working relations with the multi-disciplinary teams.

We are looking for an innovative therapist to work with our team of occupational therapists and support staff, in further developing our service for children and young people, in line with our person centred, goal focussed approach.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a caseload of children and young people with complex needs and disabilities, affecting functional performance, participation and independence. You will contribute to planning and co-ordinating service delivery. You will need to demonstrate excellent clinical knowledge, highly specialist assessment and advanced therapeutic skills.

You will strive to equip children and young people to develop independence and self management, and to participate in all that supports their leading full and happy lives. You will be passionate about further developing an effective and responsive integrated service for children and young people and their families/carers in Redbridge. You will be motivated to develop your own learning, contribute to service development and the support, training and development of junior colleagues, peers and students. The successful applicant will thrive on working as part of a team and have excellent communication skills. The role will involve working in a variety of settings, including clinic, schools, nurseries and homes. You will support junior staff in developing skills and managing caseloads.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and co-ordinate service delivery for a caseload of children and young people with a wide range of difficulties, conditions or disabilities.
  • Provide highly specialist assessment and advanced therapeutic skills with excellent clinical knowledge.
  • Work across settings including clinics, schools, nurseries and homes; support junior staff in developing skills and managing caseloads.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Band 6 or Band 7 experience in children’s community services or equivalent; ready to take on Band 7 responsibilities or currently Band 7 seeking a new challenge.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills; strong team collaboration abilities.
  • Willingness to develop leadership and clinical skills through supervision and training opportunities.

Service Context and Development

The successful applicant will thrive as part of a team and contribute to planning and co-ordination of service delivery, with opportunities to support service development and junior colleagues. The role involves working across multiple settings and close collaboration with current Band 7s and the clinical lead OT.

Induction, Probation and Benefits

  • Nelft induction for new starters includes an initial two-week comprehensive induction with mandatory training and equipment allocation; opportunities to meet executives and attend engagement sessions. Induction held at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex.
  • Probationary period applies to this post.
  • High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London: 15% of basic salary (minimum £4,714; maximum £5,941 per annum, pro rata for part time).
  • There is a well-established appraisal system with supervision and opportunities for internal and external training; leadership and clinical skill development are supported.
