Passenger Assistants form the essential link that enables children with or without special educational needs to attend school and other activities. They are the frontline support that brings the transport service to children’s doors, ensuring a safe, respectful and enjoyable journey.

Responsibilities

  • Provide caring, compassionate and supportive assistance to children, young people and their carers during every journey.
  • Communicate clearly with all parties, adapt to diverse backgrounds and maintain a positive atmosphere.
  • Ensure punctuality and safe transportation in line with school start and finish times, and adjust to route variations.
  • Safeguard confidential information and support children with discretionary needs as required.
  • Return to the pickup point after each journey, and be available for any additional travel as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • Residency within North East Lincolnshire or the ability to travel to a designated pickup point within a 15‑minute journey.
  • Level‑appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; registration with the DBS Update Service mandatory within 30 days of DBS certificate issue.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid (advantageous but not essential).
  • Patience, courtesy, and the ability to work effectively with children, families and diverse communities.
