Could you help shape the future of support for the Armed Forces community in North East Lincolnshire? If you’re passionate about championing the Armed Forces Covenant, building strong partnerships, and making a real difference for veterans, serving personnel and their families, this could be the role for you. North East Lincolnshire Council is committed to being a place where the Armed Forces community is valued, supported and treated fairly. We’re now looking for a dedicated and motivated Armed Forces Officer to lead this important work across the borough.
What’s the role all about?
This role is about leadership, coordination and advocacy. As Armed Forces Officer, you’ll lead on the delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant across North East Lincolnshire, ensuring the council meets its statutory responsibilities and that the principles of the Covenant are embedded into policy, practice and service delivery. You’ll act as the key coordination point between the council, Armed Forces communities, local veteran organisations and regional and national partners. You’ll help ensure that veterans, serving personnel and their families can access the right support at the right time, and that their needs are understood, recognised and responded to.
What will your day look like?
No two days will be the same, but you can expect to:
- Lead the local implementation of new Armed Forces Covenant legislation and monitor its impact.
- Act as a single point of contact within the council for Armed Forces organisations, veterans' groups and partner agencies.
- Work directly with Armed Forces communities to understand needs, remove barriers and improve access to services.
- Champion the Covenant across the council, advising colleagues on policy, service design and best practice.
- Support local Armed Forces organisations to secure funding for projects that strengthen community integration.
- Coordinate communications and events, including national memorial days and local Armed Forces activities.
- Work closely with the Elected Member Armed Forces Champion to support civic leadership and engagement.
- Represent North East Lincolnshire Council at local, regional and national Armed Forces networks and forums.
Who are we looking for?
You’ll bring experience of working within the Armed Forces community, either through service experience or working closely with veterans and Armed Forces organisations. You’ll be someone who:
- Is confident building strong relationships across organisations, sectors and communities.
- Can influence, negotiate and work collaboratively to achieve shared outcomes.
- Is comfortable working independently, taking initiative and leading projects from idea to delivery.
- Understands the Armed Forces Covenant, local government and the wider context of veteran welfare.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with a wide range of audiences, including partners and senior stakeholders.
- Handles sensitive information with professionalism, discretion and integrity.
Above all, you’ll care deeply about making North East Lincolnshire a place where Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families feel recognised, supported and valued.
