This is a 3 year programme plus time to complete the end point assessment.

Northumberland County Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Workshop Technician to join our Fleet Services team.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable qualifications, develop specialist technical skills, and work alongside experienced technicians maintaining a diverse fleet of vehicles and plant equipment.

As an apprentice, you'll receive practical training and support while working towards a recognised apprenticeship standard, helping you build the knowledge and experience needed for a successful career in vehicle maintenance and engineering.

  • What You'll Learn
  • Working as part of a professional workshop team, you will develop the skills to:
  • Service, inspect and repair a wide range of vehicles and plant equipment.
  • Prepare vehicles to MOT and LGV testing standards.
  • Diagnose faults using visual inspections and computerised diagnostic systems.
  • Identify and order vehicle parts and components.
  • Maintain accurate workshop records and documentation.
  • Use specialist tools, equipment and diagnostic technology.
  • Develop welding and fabrication skills.
  • Support vehicle breakdowns and repairs.

Essential Requirements

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or grade 4 or above). There may be an opportunity to complete Functional Skills Maths and/or English through the college.
  • A genuine interest in vehicle maintenance, engineering or mechanical work.
  • Commitment to completing the apprenticeship programme.

Previous experience is not required.

We're looking for enthusiastic individuals with the right attitude and willingness to learn.

Full training and support will be provided throughout your apprenticeship.
