We have an exciting role on offer within our Children's services as an Elective Home Education Officer.

We are seeking to appoint an EHE (Elective Home Education) Officer (incorporating Child Entertainment Employment Licensing duties) to work within Middlesbrough Council's Access to Education team.

You will assess EHE referrals from parents, offer advice and guidance to families and develop strong partnerships with stakeholders including school leaders.

Your primary role is to ensure that children who are electively home educated receive an appropriate education. This will mean reviewing schemes of work and learning resources to ensure that the learning plans proposed by parents are effective. Home visits will allow you to assess the learning environment to ensure the child is able to learn at home.

Where parents are not ensuring the child receives an appropriate education, you will work with them to help them to improve the quality of education they are providing. If the parent is unable to offer a sufficiently high-quality education, you will work with the family and stakeholders to help return the child to school.

You will also assist in the licensing of children of compulsory school age who are working part-time or taking part in performances and entertainment (CEEL). As part of this we process applications in relation to Child Employment Permits, Child Performance Licences, Chaperone Approvals and Body of Persons Approvals ensuring that children are safeguarded and protected.

We are seeking applications from those who work well as part of a team, but who are also able to work independently. You will be skilled at building trusting relationships with professionals and families and robust enough to take difficult decisions when needed.

You must be able to evidence experience of negotiating and influencing competently and appropriately to secure positive outcomes. You will have a good understanding of relevant guidance relating to EHE and CEEL. It is essential you can demonstrate recent successful experience of working with children and young people with the full range of abilities including SEN.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the ambition and skills to support us in our shared goal of providing an outstanding service. If you are passionate about improving children's life chances and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, you may be the right person for us. Comprehensive training will be available to the right candidate.
