Are you an experienced housing professional with a strong understanding of anti-social behaviour legislation and a commitment to improving neighbourhoods? We are looking for a dedicated Safer Communities Officer to join our team and play a vital role in creating safer, stronger communities across Northumberland.
Role of the Job
- You will be responsible for the investigation of cases of anti-social behaviour within Northumberland County Council housing stock and work in partnership to resolve them.
- You will manage a day-to-day caseload, this will include gathering evidence, attending partnership meetings with Northumbria Police and representing Northumberland County Council at safeguarding, adult and children's services meetings.
- Represent NCC at ASB case reviews (Community Trigger).
- You will coordinate and/or participate in operations with the Police and other partners (which may include out of hours).
- Interview all relevant parties involved in cases, carry out home visits.
- Keep detailed case notes and records of all visits and meetings, take action where necessary in line with legislation including Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 and the Housing Act 1985 and 1996 to enforce tenancy conditions.
- You will be required to complete statements and court bundles and attend Court on behalf of the Council, ensuring all follow-up actions are completed including the service of court orders.
- You will work with two other Safer Neighbourhood Officers covering your own patch and be managed by the Senior Safer Neighbourhood officer.
- The team is reactive and proactive to reduce anti-social behaviour within the housing stock.
We are looking for a motivated enthusiastic team player who is able and confident to work independently and as part of a team. An excellent communicator to represent NCC at required meetings. Competent in Microsoft Office Applications, with experience of witness statement taking and record keeping.
Requirements of the role
- You must have a good overall standard of education, with a thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant service legislation, guidance, policies and best practice relating to housing management, anti-social behaviour, crime and disorder.
- You must have knowledge & understanding of investigatory techniques along with knowledge & understanding of criminal & civil court procedures.
- You should have considerable recent and relevant experience related to the post including experience of managing, investigating and resolving anti-social behaviour and crime and disorder issues within a local authority or similar environment.
- Valid UK Driving License.
- Housing experience dealing with high level ASB.
- Experience and knowledge of the Anti Social Behaviour Crime and policing act 2014, Housing act 1985 and 1996 and consumer regulations.
- Experience of completing witness statements and court bundles and attending court.
