Specialist Practitioner – Urgent Care (Nurse/Paramedic)
Department: Integrated Urgent Clinical Assessment Service (IUC CAS) within Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)

Main Duties
As Specialist Practitioner – Urgent Care you will join a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team, responsible for undertaking remote clinical assessments for patients accessing our fully integrated 111/999 service. You will assess patients, plan care, and refer onwards via telephone or video-consultation. This unique role requires a unique set of skills and experience. Experience in urgent or emergency care, along with telephone triage and history taking, would be advantageous.
We can offer substantive full-time or part-time employment. The team includes Doctors, Pharmacists, and Advanced/Specialist Practitioners, supported by Senior Clinical Advisors, Health Advisors and others, to ensure the best quality of care for the region’s patients and service users. The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with flexible shift patterns, and is based at Newburn Riverside, Newcastle; Russell House, Hebburn; or Winter House, Wynyard, Co Durham.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential Criteria
- HCPC Registered Paramedic or NMC registered Nurse
- Holds a BSc in an appropriate subject or equivalent level 6 education (as determined by the senior clinical leadership team)
- PG Diploma (level 7) Advanced Clinical Practice or a close equivalent (as determined by the senior clinical leadership team)
Desirable Criteria
- Non-medical Prescribing qualification and registration
- Diploma in Primary and Urgent Care College of Paramedics (Dip PUC) or Diploma in Urgent Medical Care from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (DipUMC)
- Teaching and/or mentoring qualification
