About the role

As a Town Centres Assistant you will play a key role in supporting the smooth and effective running of our town centres and markets. This varied, hands‑on role places you at the heart of day‑to‑day operations, ensuring our town centres are safe, well‑organised and welcoming for residents, businesses and visitors. You will support activities such as coordinating town centre events and works, maintaining accurate records, and helping deliver busy outdoor markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Updating town centre diaries with events, roadworks or licences.
  • Supporting audits of businesses and public spaces.
  • Working directly with market traders to resolve day‑to‑day issues.
  • Assisting with setting up and dismantling market stalls and gazebos.
  • Keeping market areas clean, safe and running efficiently.
  • Recording and managing important trader documentation.
  • Supporting events and activities across the town centre.

Qualifications

  • Experience in markets or events.
  • Friendly, approachable and confident communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Organised with the ability to manage tasks and keep accurate records.
  • Practical and willing to get stuck into hands‑on tasks.
  • Strong team player who can also work independently.
  • Calm and professional, even in busy or challenging situations.
  • Comfortable using IT systems such as Outlook, Teams and Excel.
  • Experience of a customer‑facing role and handling enquiries.
  • Understanding of health and safety and maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Full UK driving licence (or willingness to work towards one).
