An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Digital Live Service Team as an IT Apprentice. We have a very successful programme, our latest intake have all passed with distinctions. As an IT Apprentice you will support 1st line Helpdesk and the wider Desktop Support function. This role is ideal for someone developing a career in IT while working towards a Level 3 qualification. The post holder will play an important part in helping colleagues access reliable, secure IT services, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and that users receive a positive and professional support experience.
Our digital team provides frontline support for IT queries across the authority, responding to issues raised by telephone, email and the self‑service portal. Their work helps staff stay connected, productive and secure, which in turn supports the delivery of council services to residents across the borough.
Responsibilities
- The post holder will help diagnose and resolve IT issues.
- Respond to Helpdesk requests.
- Support users with day‑to‑day ICT queries.
- Contribute to small‑scale IT projects.
- Meet agreed service standards.
- Build technical knowledge throughout the apprenticeship.
- Develop skills needed to provide effective, customer‑focused IT support across the organisation.
The Successful Candidate
The role calls for strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, enthusiasm for IT, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently when required. The successful candidate will have GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent), a keen interest in IT, basic digital skills, and the ability to communicate clearly, follow instructions and deliver a high standard of customer service. An understanding of Office 365, problem‑solving skills and previous IT study would be beneficial, but these can be developed further through the apprenticeship and on‑the‑job training.
