We have an exciting role on offer within our Inclusion and Specialist Supportservice as a SEND Project Support Officer.

About Us

In Middlesbrough we are ambitious for children and young people with SEND. As part of Middlesbrough Council’s broader transformation programme and our continuing work on improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND, the Council are implementing an innovative and new digital approach to the way in which High Needs Top-Up funding is allocated to schools and settings for children and young people with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

This is an exciting opportunity for candidates to support the implementation of the new approach which will support approximately 2,000 children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in all special schools, mainstream schools, alternative provision, resource bases and post 16 settings to receive the funding they need to thrive and succeed. This will include using digital technology to ensure that the funding received by children and young people with an EHCP is reflective of their individual needs. To support the implementation of the new approach a dedicated Project Team will be put into place for a fixed term 24-month contract term. This will include 3 Project Support Officers who will be instrumental in ensuring the new digital approach is successfully delivered for the benefit of children and young people with SEND.

The role of the Project Support Officer is to support the implementation of the new approach. This will involve using the information contained in the child or young person’s EHCP to generate a Needs Profile and funding level for children and young people and transitioning children and young people from across the broad ecology of provision onto the new system. This will include working with the project lead to deliver the project plan, supporting stakeholders from across the system and ensuring timely and effective communication of decision outcomes. Successful candidates for the role must meet the requirements of the job role as outlined on the attached Job Description and Person specification.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have knowledge and experience in coordinating special educational needs administration, systems and procedures, have a good working knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and experience of extracting, collating and checking data and information from common office ICT and other platforms.
