Salary Range: Grade 3, SCP7 – SCP8 (£26,403.00 - £26,824.00 FTE) Pro rata salary £23,327.00 - £23,699.00
Salary amounts quoted are from the 1 September to 31 August and therefore if you commence employment part way through the academic year they are subject to an equated salary adjustment.
Working Type: Full time, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks worked (45.942 paid weeks).
Base: Dyke House Academy, Mapleton Road, Hartlepool, TS24 8NQ.
Note: The post holder will be engaging in regulated activity, working mainly or wholly with children.
This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

The Role
As a Science Technician, you will work under the direction of the Senior Science Technician or Head of Department to ensure our students receive an exceptional practical education.
This role involves working closely with children and is vital to the daily success of our science classrooms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lesson Preparation & Support: Organising apparatus, preparing resources, and constructing/checking specialist equipment prior to lessons.
You will also assist teaching staff with practical demonstrations and provide lesson support or cover where required.
- Departmental Planning: Helping to plan experiments and stepping in to assist with the duties of absent colleagues to ensure learning resources are delivered seamlessly.
- Health & Safety
Leadership: Taking an active role in maintaining health and safety procedures.
This includes conducting daily visual checks on gas, electricity, and water, performing portable appliance testing (PAT), managing risk assessments, and ensuring the safe storage and monitoring of hazardous substances and apparatus.
- Resource
Management: Cleaning and clearing apparatus after lessons, maintaining accurate inventories, auditing stock, placing orders for resources/stationery, and carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs.

- Strong organizational skills to manage stock, maintain equipment, and re‑organise storage on a regular basis.

- Strict compliance with GDPR and data protection regulations to maintain confidentiality.
- An enhanced DBS check is a requirement for this role.
