An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a Regional Children in Care Council worker. The role is to support the development and coordination of the Children in Care Council across the North East region. The Regional Children in Care Council’s role is to help amplify the voices of young people who are cared for and help them make meaningful changes.

To assist with this, a core part of the role will include linking with the Regional Care Leavers Board and ensuring the work they are doing is held to account by care experienced young people. For this role, you will sit within the Communities and Inclusion Children’s Participation Team whilst working closely with members of the Children’s Participation Team and participation leads across the North East. You will work closely with young people and participation workers from across the region, supporting their feedback to internal and external partners.

The successful candidate

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and an understanding of the benefits of participation and how this benefits children and young people. Knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and other relevant safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance, including Working Together 2018 and leaving care offers, will be required as part of this role. We welcome applications from applicants with lived experience or an understanding of the benefits of being part of young people’s councils.

This post is 18.5 hours per week, fixed term for 18 months. Working hours frequently are outside of normal office hours and occasional weekends. Applicants should be prepared to work flexibly across the North East to meet the needs of the post.
