North East Learning Trust comprises 13 soon to be 15 academies and more than 1,500 colleagues across the North East and are seeking to appoint an experienced HR Manager to provide a hands‑on, day‑to‑day operational HR service across our schools. You’ll work within a small team of experienced HR professionals, supporting leaders to deliver excellent outcomes for staff and, ultimately, the children and young people in our schools.

You will manage your own portfolio of schools, building trusted relationships with leaders while being supported by the wider HR team. The role offers excellent opportunities to broaden your experience across all aspects of operational HR and develop within a growing Trust. Alongside supporting organisational change initiatives, you will lead on employee relations matters, attendance management and the implementation of HR policies. You will also design and deliver management training to help drive consistent people practices across the Trust.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance and organisational change cases.
  • Provide people‑focused advice to leaders on employment law and fair decision‑making.
  • Co‑operate with managers, coaching and supporting them in their people management roles.
  • Implement and maximise HR and payroll systems.
  • Travel regularly between Trust schools and offices to meet operational needs.

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience/qualification).
  • Significant experience managing complex employee relations cases.
  • Sound knowledge of employment law with a pragmatic, people‑focused approach.
  • Experience coaching and supporting managers.
  • Experience implementing and maximising HR and payroll systems.
