Business Services have an exciting opportunity to appoint various Grade 3 Business Services Assistants to join our team supporting Durham County Council’s Adult Care Teams. Full time, part time, permanent and temporary contracts available.

The roles will provide support to one of the Learning Disabilities, Locality or County-wide Occupational Therapy and Sensory Support Service Teams. The Adult Health Services Teams ensure that the social care needs of people are fully assessed under the Care Act and that the services are delivered, monitored and reviewed in accordance with agreed care plans.

What is involved? You will become part of an administrative support team working alongside our Council’s hybrid model between your home address and another base within County Durham. We’re looking for a reliable, organised administrator to support our frontline teams and to deliver a professional service. You’ll provide day-to-day administrative support, manage calls, inboxes and digital mail, maintain accurate electronic records, process referrals, applications and invoices, and liaise with a wide range of external agencies. You’ll also support confidential work, track activity and expenditure, assist with customer-facing services, and embrace new ways of working including AI tools.

If you’re detail-focused, confident with digital systems, and enjoy working in a busy, people-focused environment, we’d love to hear from you.

What will I need? NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration (or equivalent). Please refer to the attached Person Specification for the full criteria.

Interviews will be held week commencing 2nd March 2026. We operate a guaranteed interview scheme for applicants that can show they meet all the essential criteria and have indicated they have a disability, are a looked after young person, care leaver or a veteran.

Our offer to you: We offer a competitive rewards package that includes attractive salaries, a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days (rising to 32 after five years’ continuous local government service), membership of the excellent contributory career average Local Government Pension Scheme, and a range of flexible working arrangements including hybrid working (home and office) where applicable. Explore the full range of rewards and benefits on our website. Rewards and benefits are subject to individual terms and conditions.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion: We are a proud equal opportunities employer and believe a diverse workforce brings fresh ideas and drives service improvement. We welcome applications from everyone and make employment decisions based on skills and ability. As a Disability Confident Leader, we actively encourage applications from disabled people and offer support throughout the recruitment process.

How to apply: Please note, we do not accept CVs. All applications must be submitted online via the Northeast Jobs portal. Use the ‘Person Specification’ section of the form to clearly demonstrate how you meet the essential (and where possible, desirable) criteria. Applications that do not evidence the essential requirements will not be shortlisted. For guidance on completing your application, visit our website.
