Salary & Benefits

  • Basic Salary: £35,412 - £39,152 (Band 7)
  • Market Force Allowance: £5,000 p/a (Reviewed annually)
  • Enhancements (Out-of-Hours): £3,632 - £4,015
  • Sleep-in Shift Payment: £43.12 per shift

About the role

This is a challenging but highly rewarding leadership role within a secure children's home, supporting young people who have experienced significant trauma and may present with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

As a Secure Team Supervisor, you will take a key role in leading shifts, supporting staff, and ensuring young people receive safe, consistent, and high-quality care. You will be instrumental in creating a stable and therapeutic environment that helps young people build trust, resilience, and positive futures.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting young people who may display behaviour that challenges, including aggression, self-harm, or disengagement.
  • Leading staff through emotionally challenging situations, including crisis response and de-escalation.
  • Maintaining safety and security within a highly regulated environment.
  • Making confident decisions under pressure to keep young people and staff safe.
  • Working shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Providing clear direction, guidance, and support to staff on shift, ensuring safe and effective daily operations.
  • Acting as the duty contact for the home when required, making key operational and safeguarding decisions and providing leadership oversight in the absence of senior managers.
  • Supporting induction, supervision, and performance development to build a confident and capable workforce.
  • Overseeing and implementing individual care, risk, and education plans to meet each young person's needs.
  • Leading responses to incidents and ensuring safeguarding standards are consistently upheld.
  • Supporting safe admissions, transitions, and discharges in line with procedures.
  • Collaborating with professionals to ensure coordinated and effective support for young people.
  • Delivering care aligned to Secure Stairs and trauma‑informed principles.
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports, and documentation to support safe practice and accountability.

  • Resilient and emotionally intelligent, able to remain calm and lead others in challenging situations.
  • Experienced in working with young people who have experienced trauma and display behaviours that challenge.
  • Confident in leading teams and supporting others to develop their skills and practice.
  • Highly organised and able to make clear, effective decisions under pressure.
  • Committed to safeguarding, high standards, and accountability.
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with young people and colleagues.

Essential experience and qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with young people in a residential care setting.
  • Experience supporting young people with complex needs and behaviours that challenge.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation (e.g. Children Act).
  • Strong communication, organisational, and report‑writing skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in a supervisory or team leader role.
  • Willingness to undertake further qualifications (Level 4 or above).

This role is physically and emotionally demanding. You will be working with young people at times of crisis, where behaviours can be challenging and progress may take time.

You will need resilience, consistency, and the ability to lead others through difficult situations.
