Purpose of the Role
The Literacy Specialist plays a key role in improving reading outcomes across KS1, KS2 and KS3/secondary phases. The role focuses on delivering evidence-informed practice to strengthen reading provision and support pupils, particularly those who have fallen behind, to become fluent, confident readers.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality training and in‑school support (virtual and face‑to‑face)
- Conduct diagnostic audits and develop evidence‑informed action plans
- Model, coach and support teaching practice in partner schools
- Support phonics (KS1/KS2), reading fluency (KS2/KS3) and whole school reading approaches
- Work with leaders to strengthen reading provision and leadership
- Promote best practice and represent Westgarth English Hub
- Monitor impact, maintain accurate records and report to the Hub Lead
- Engage fully in CPD and contribute to wider Hub work
