The post is within the Connect Mental Health Support Team (MHST), which sits under Children’s Services. The team provides mental health support to young people in schools and their families, working collaboratively with education settings and other professionals.

The Team Manager role is responsible for the operational running of the MHST, line managing senior practitioners and Education Mental Health Practitioners, and ensuring high-quality, timely mental health interventions. The post holder will have a significant impact by leading service delivery, maintaining clinical standards, managing resources effectively, and supporting staff to deliver evidence-based interventions that improve outcomes for children and young people.

The Connect MHST provides early intervention and tailored mental health support for children and young people in schools, fostering emotional wellbeing and resilience. By improving access to care and championing a whole-school approach to mental health, the team helps create a positive, supportive environment that promotes wellbeing across the borough.

The post-holder is responsible for leading the operational and clinical functions of the Mental Health Support Team (MHST), ensuring service delivery meets best practice and national standards. They will provide strong leadership, foster collaboration across education and health partners, and drive continuous improvement to enhance outcomes for children, young people, and families while promoting emotional wellbeing in schools.

The successful candidate will manage the operational delivery of the MHST, provide clinical supervision, support staff development, and ensure adherence to safeguarding policies and professional standards. They will also oversee budget planning, maintain accurate clinical records, and contribute to service development and engagement with children and young people.

The role requires current professional registration (e.g., NMC, HCPC, Social Work England or BABCP accreditation), experience in delivering evidence-based interventions, and strong skills in risk management and multidisciplinary working. Areas that can be developed include clinical supervision qualifications and advanced training in trauma-informed care, which the post-holder can work towards if not already held.
