We are entering exciting times in waste collections, with separate food collections and Simpler Recycling coming shortly, where we will be collecting a wider range of recyclable materials. We want you to be part of the journey. This is a permanent, full‑time position over a 4‑day working week Monday to Thursday based at our Tyne Mills Depot in Hexham.
Responsibilities
- Drive our large fleet of refuse and recycling collection vehicles alongside state‑of‑the‑art food waste collection vehicles. Each vehicle is equipped with an in‑cab tablet which you will use daily.
- Take overall responsibility for the careful use and maintenance of the vehicle and allocated tools and equipment.
- Drive a heavy goods vehicle (HGV), load refuse and lead a small team of dedicated refuse collection staff, ensuring efficient and effective services and maintaining clean, safe, tidy streets, homes and businesses while providing high levels of customer service.
Requirements
- Qualified to drive our fleet: hold a Class 2 licence and have experience driving large HGVs with no historical driving convictions.
- Experience with in‑cab technology is desirable but not essential.
- Hard‑working, physically fit and healthy, with the strength, dexterity and coordination required for manual handling and hydraulic equipment operation.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to lead a small crew on collection rounds.
- Willingness to go the extra mile, maintain a positive attitude and strong customer service focus.
- Strong awareness of safety, ability to drive confidently in a variety of urban and rural locations and cope with the regular high level of physical demand.

- 26 days annual leave plus public/bank holidays, rising to 31 days after 5 years of service (pro‑rata for part‑time).
