Haydon Bridge High School is a small, inclusive rural comprehensive at the heart of the South Tyne Valley, serving an extensive 800 square mile catchment area. We are looking for an experienced School Operations Manager with significant experience of estates, facilities or premises management, ideally within a school or other public-sector setting, to provide strategic and operational leadership across our school estate.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining a safe, compliant and inspiring learning environment. Working closely with the Executive Headteacher and School Business Manager, you will lead site, cleaning and catering services, oversee IT infrastructure provision, manage contractors and help drive the strategic development of our facilities.

The role will involve:

  • Supporting the strategic leadership of the school estate and operational services.
  • Health and safety management and statutory compliance.
  • Regular site inspections, working at height, manual handling and hands-on maintenance work (electrical, plumbing, general construction and repairs) in addition to office-based planning and administrative duties
  • Line management of site, cleaning and catering teams.
  • Oversight of IT infrastructure support arrangements.
  • Budget management, procurement and contractor supervision.
  • Estate development, sustainability and efficiency planning.
  • Supporting future capital and new-build projects.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Significant experience of estates, facilities or premises management, ideally within a school or public-sector environment.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing budgets, contracts and service providers.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong hands-on maintenance skills, including electrical, plumbing, general building maintenance, construction and repair work.
  • Ability to diagnose problems, prioritise repairs and implement effective solutions.
  • Is a team player who shares our commitment to supporting young people and the wider school
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Hours: 37hrs a week, all year round
