Please note this vacancy will close after we have received 40 applications.

We have an exciting role on offer within our Neighbourhoods as a Community Hub and Library Assistant.

When it comes to delivering excellent customer service, few environments are more rewarding than a place that brings enjoyment, education and knowledge to a whole community.

This is an exciting time to be joining the service, as our Central Library reopened last year following a major refurbishment. The service is looking for an enthusiastic and flexible person who loves working with people to join our team.

At our busy Central Library, we have a strong children and family focus, so you will be taking part in supporting activities for young people, including rhyme times, storytelling and running craft activities.

You will be working in our Family and Lending Library, Reference Department and Computer Suite, promoting the library and the wide variety of services on offer for all ages.

You will be able to demonstrate that you have recent experience of serving customers of all ages from across the whole community, in a face‑to‑face environment and you will be an excellent communicator.

You will be the first point of contact for a wide variety of enquiries, including supporting customers to access information and support from other council services. You will have an integral part to play in the day‑to‑day operation of the building, and will handle room bookings, cash handling, setting up rooms for meetings and opening and closing buildings.

You will need good IT and digital skills, enjoy working as part of a team, yet still able to use our resources in order to answer the wide range of enquiries we receive.

This role includes evening and weekend working, and the requirement to work in any Library and Community Hub in Middlesbrough to provide staff cover as requested.

If this is you, this may be the opportunity you are looking for!
