ROLE OF THE JOB Northumberland County Council (NCC) is currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated Animal Welfare Officer. The post is part of the Environmental Enforcement Team which sits within Neighborhood Services. The Environmental Enforcement Team provides environmental crime investigation, pest control and animal welfare services across the county. The Animal Welfare Team leads on: The investigation and enforcement of animal welfare legislation, including file preparation, warrants of entry and animal seizures. The enforcement of Dog Control Orders/Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO) including the issuing of fixed penalty notices. Provision of the stray dog service. Provision of a microchipping service. Promotion of the Green Dog Walker Scheme. Provision of advice and guidance. Promotional activities such as school visits Reporting to the Senior Animal Welfare Officer (SAWO), the successful candidate would be responsible for, The management and collection of stray animals, investigation of animal welfare issues, and associated legal procedures including, warrants, case file preparation, PACE interviews, liaison with legal services and witness duties. Additional enforcement duties will include, patrolling and enforcement under the provisions of dog related PSPOs and microchipping and the issuing of fixed penalty notices/Community Protection Warnings/Notices Investigation of stray animal reports, establishing ownership, liaison with Microchip companies, working with local rescue and kennelling facilities. Managing the microchipping service including implanting and registration of microchips. Provision of general advice on responsible dog ownership. Promotion and support of the national Green Dog Walkers Scheme.
