Responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating safe operations in the depot and yard. You will deputise in the absence of the Supervisor, ensuring all depot and yard personnel, drivers, and crews unload recyclable materials safely and efficiently.
Key tasks involve:
- Operating a telescopic handler and manually loading and transferring recyclate, waste, and other materials while keeping stockpiles tidy.
- Receiving deliveries of stock (bins) and ensuring appropriate storage.
- Emptying food stillages into the RORO skip, washing and disinfecting stillages, and clearing spillages from the process hall floor.
- Washing out dirty wheeled bins and returning them to the storage compound.
- Sorting, sifting, and preparing commodities for baling and onward shipment.
- Operating balers or presses and associated conveyor lines in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Conducting daily routine maintenance and checks of all relevant plant and machinery.
- Ensuring cleanliness, legal compliance, and safe operation of the depot, including the smoking area.
- Maintaining tidiness in the textile area and ensuring fire escape routes are clear.
- Keeping the WEEE recycling area tidy and ensuring batteries are correctly stored to reduce fire risks.
- Receiving training and using Working at Height equipment for routine cleaning of processing equipment and bailers.
- Isolating equipment at the power supply to clear blockages.
- Receiving confined space training and carrying out associated works.
- Working on a rolling rota to maintain skills and competencies on the Telehandler, Forklift, and bailers.
- Providing cover when required for collection or street cleansing services.
- Driving non-LGV vehicles when required and washing down vehicles and equipment.
- Being trained to drive HGV for unloading purposes.
- Complying with statutory requirements, Council policies, and procedures, including health and safety and security.
- Actively supporting the Council's Equal Opportunities policy.
- Contributing to the overall aims and targets of Works and Recycling Services.
- Participating in training and development activities as required.
- Undertaking any other similar duties as part of a flexible team.
