An excellent opportunity has arisen within North Curry Health Centre to support the Primary Health Care Team. We are a friendly Dispensing Practice with a list size of just over 4,000 patients.
Duties for the position include:
- Typing of all correspondence including letters, referrals and medical reports for insurers and solicitors.
- Arranging meetings and taking minutes.
- Filing and retrieving medical records.
- Processing incoming mail.
- Liaising with patients and healthcare providers regarding patient referrals.
It would be preferable that applicants have previous medical secretarial experience including medical audio typing skills and an understanding of medical terminology. It is desirable that the applicants have worked in a GP surgery and be familiar with the electronic referral booking system and GP clinical systems (ideally EMIS Web).
Main duties of the job:
- To provide a high quality and efficient general secretarial service to the Practice Manager, Doctors and Health Professionals involving word processing, audio typing skills and general clerical work.
We are seeking a motivated well-organised individual to join our team. For this role it is essential that you are reliable, flexible, have effective communication skills, excellent IT skills and enjoy working as part of a team. You should have a good level of general education with 3 GCSEs Grade A-C including English and Maths.
Job responsibilities:
- To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and Health Professionals as required.
- This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, memoranda, etc. in an accurate and quality manner.
- Requests EMIS tasks from Health Professionals.
- Following up of emails from outside clinical establishments.
- Emailing of Medical Examiner forms and completed MCCDs to Medical Examiners.
- Dealing with incoming AccRx messages on EMIS.
- Dealing with incoming emails from outside Health Professionals.
- Dealing of incoming referral documentation.
- To attend meetings and take minutes, where necessary.
- To retrieve medical records and assist the completion of medical/insurance records.
- To retrieve medical records and assist with the completion of SARs requests.
- Invoicing third parties on completion of medical/insurance reports.
- To receive appropriate incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others and dealing with appropriate queries.
- To provide appropriate clerical and administrative duties in line with the E-Referrals, Cinapsis and C-the signs referral systems.
- To provide appropriate clerical and administrative duties in line with the E-Referrals advice and guidance service.
- To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
- Cervical Cytology: inform declined/no longer appropriate cytology via computerised notifications.
- Attend monthly training session (last Thursday in the month 12.30-4.00pm).
Person Specification:
Qualifications:- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
- GCSE Mathematics and English (C or above).
- OCR/RSA Stage 3 typing or equivalent.
- An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Clear, polite telephone manner.
- Accurate with attention to detail and high standards of work.
- Strong IT skills, including audio typing, Office and Outlook.
- Effective time management (planning and organising).
- Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
- Good interpersonal skills.
