We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our team on the Intensive Care Unit at the West Cumberland Hospital. The Trust will provide a twelve-month preceptorship period for all newly registered healthcare professionals. Healthcare professionals returning to practice, moving into new roles or changing clinical environments may access an agreed preceptorship period.

Main duties of the job:

  • Our busy 6-bed general ICU unit provides adult intensive care/high-dependency care and post-anesthetic care for elective and emergency patients across a range of medical and surgical specialities including Renal, Cardiology, Respiratory, Orthopaedic, Neurological and Obstetric patients.
  • Within our ICU, we are actively involved in stabilisation and transfer of adult patients requiring more specific intensive care such as neurological trauma, burns, spinal injuries, cardiac and hepatic disease.
  • The ICU also specialises in stabilisation and delivery of intensive care/high dependency care for paediatric patients prior to transfer to a specialised Paediatric ICU.
  • The unit benefits from a dedicated Clinical Educator who provides on-the-job training and coordinates further professional development for the ICU nursing team.
  • The unit will provide a 6-week preceptorship period with the support of our Intensive Care Clinical Educator.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Registered nurse with valid registration, Foundations in critical care or equivalent, NoECCN Step competences 1 & 2 completed or equivalent, Further relevant post-registration development to postgraduate diploma equivalent.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Student nurse in the NHS, General nursing in the NHS or equivalent, Continuing professional development with portfolio, NMC code of professional conduct, Equality legislation and best practice, ITU/HDU nursing experience, Mentor to pre-registration nursing students, Budgetary awareness, Critical care.
  • Skills and Aptitudes: Developed communication and interpersonal skills, Ability to work as a member of a team with minimal supervision, Ability to demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care, Immediate Life Support (ILS), Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS).
  • Other Requirements: Motivation, Willingness to develop by expanding the role, Flexible approach to working patterns.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 a year (per annum, pro rata).
