Staff Nurse, Day Surgery

Band 5 Staff Nurse, 24 hours per week, Day case Unit, Fixed term for 6 months.

An exciting opportunity has arisen on the Day Case Unit to recruit highly motivated Band 5 staff nurses to join our dedicated team in order to provide a safe and efficient service to surgical patients.

The Trust will provide a twelve month preceptorship period for all newly registered healthcare professionals.

As a unit we operate using 20 beds and are open seven days a week, currently working 12‑hour day shifts (07.30-20.00) with future plans to finish at 22.00hrs due to the advances in day case surgeries and patient care.

Main duties

  • Flexible, enthusiastic and reliable, working independently and as part of a team.
  • Admit patients and plan discharge for a small group of patients each shift.
  • Access, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs as part of a nurse‑led multi‑disciplinary team.

Person Specification

Knowledge

  • Continuing professional development with portfolio.
  • NMC code of professional conduct.
  • Equality issues and best practice.

Experience

  • Student nurse in the NHS or general nursing within the NHS or equivalent.
  • Relevant field of nursing.
  • Budgetary awareness.
  • Supporting students.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with active registration.
  • Teaching certificate or equivalent.

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Ability to work as a team member, without close supervision.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.
