Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to take part in People Services Business Partnering for North Cumbria Integrated NHS Foundation Trust – a challenging position, critical in supporting the way we care for staff who experience difficulties at work, whether in respect of their conduct, performance, interpersonal relationships (including bullying and harassment) sickness absence or other concerns. A core element of the role will be to support managers in complying with policy and best practice, coaching and advising on employee relations cases, and providing advice to managers at all levels, ensuring the implementation of an inclusive and restorative culture in line with our Values. The post holder will also support and implement ongoing projects, such as for the reduction of sickness absence across the Trust, supporting cultural and sustained change, improved performance and therefore patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Support the People Services Business Partners in developing a positive approach to employment relations by building strong partnerships between People Services colleagues, managers, clinicians, staff and their representatives.
  • Provide advice, coaching and assistance to managers in investigation processes, including arranging witness meetings, taking statements, and supporting the preparation of outcome reports.
  • Offer consistent advice and recommendations to managers on management of a wide range of employee relations cases and assist with decision making around potential breaches of the disciplinary policy.
  • Analyse situations and make judgements on a range of people issues (e.g., initial fact finding, disciplinary and grievance investigations and outcomes).
  • Plan and coordinate case management meetings; produce effective guidance and toolkits for managers to understand and follow policies and procedures; deliver training as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential
    • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience.
    • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience.
    • Understanding of the national NHS agenda and the Human Resource contribution.
    • Knowledge of employment legislation and employment issues; experience in HR operations across disciplinary, grievances, harassment, sickness absence and performance management.
    • Experience working in a unionised environment and developing positive partnerships with trade union representatives and senior managers.
  • Desirable
    • Knowledge of Medical Staffing employment issues; knowledge of NHS terms and conditions; previous NHS experience.

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication; strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload to meet deadlines; organised and able to delegate as appropriate.
  • Coaching, analytical and data interpretation skills; attention to detail; proficient IT skills.
  • Self-motivated; commitment to partnership working and continuing professional development.
