The post holder will work within the Persistent Physical Symptoms Service (PPSS) which will provide specialist input to working age adults across Cumbria with Chronic/ Persistent Pain, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) Functional Neurological Symptoms and Medically Unexplained Symptoms (MUS). This service is currently based on a biopsychosocial model providing matched care for patients and training for primary care staff.

The PPSS sits within the Department of Physical Health and Rehabilitation Psychology in the Specialist Services Care Pathway within North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. The Department offers specialist psychological and rehabilitation input, across Cumbria to patients with Health and Neurological problems.

  • The main purpose is to support, and continually improve the Persistent Physical Symptoms Service (PPSS) within the North Cumbria area. The main roles and responsibilities will include

Taking a lead role in the physiotherapy provision within PPSS providing an advanced level of assessment and therapeutic input for patients presenting with highly complex physical and psychological symptoms.

To provide expert physiotherapy advice, support and education alongside multi-disciplinary colleagues to ensure the delivery of person centred, integrated and co-ordinated services (where appropriate).

Working collaboratively within a team consisting of a clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, cognitive behavioural therapists and Living Well Coaches; with support from a Consultant Clinical Psychologists.

Following a biopsychosocial model with four tiers/ levels of care that incorporates both physical and psychological interventions. Interventions will include one to one rehabilitation as well as the provision of a symptom management group in line with NICE guidance and best practice.

Being flexible in delivery of the PPSS alongside emerging best practice and NICE guidance.

Contributing to the continuous improvement of this service through audit, research and collaborative working.

Acting as an advanced level resource for Physical Persistent Symptoms for Physiotherapy colleagues across Cumbria.

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.
