Urology Nurse Specialist in Carlisle

This post complements the existing urology nurse specialists. It focuses mainly on caring for patients with urological cancer, providing support and information to patients and their families across North Cumbria with cross-site commitments in Carlisle and Whitehaven. A component of the role will also address benign disease. As a Band 7 nurse, the successful candidate will receive support and time to help manage the growing urology nursing team.

Main duties of the job:

• Ensure a high standard of care for all patients with a diagnosis of urological cancer, providing emotional and practical support to the patient and their family/carers before, during and after treatment.
• Put quality at the heart of practice: deliver evidence-based, individualised and personalised care through holistic needs assessment, planning and evaluation of care and all care interventions.
• Demonstrate high level clinical, technical and research skills, actively integrating theory and practice.
• Act as key worker for a clinical caseload, coordinating care and providing easy access for ongoing support for patients.
• Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across service boundaries.
• Develop pathways of care for patients throughout the patient journey, ensuring full involvement of patients, their relatives and carers.
• Provide line management leadership to the urology nursing workforce.

Qualifications:

• First degree in nursing or equivalent, with current registration.
• Teaching certificate or equivalent.
• Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent.
• Urology/oncology nursing certificate or equivalent.
• Counselling certificate or equivalent.
• Research certificate or equivalent.
• Advanced communication course.

• Experience working in an inpatient/outpatient environment caring for patients with urological cancer.

• Some experience in intravesical bladder instillation.
