An exciting opportunity has arisen for a healthcare assistant who is up to a new challenge and develop their skills in a renal unit. Full support and training are provided in care needs of a haemodialysis patient. The unit provides holistic, evidence-based care to patients requiring haemodialysis. We have 14 stations and care for patients with acute and chronic renal failure. We are a multidisciplinary team.

The essential criteria for this role includes the requirement to have a care certificate or the willingness and ability to undertake this.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post holder will carry out delegated tasks involving direct care under the direction of a Registered Nurse assisting in the delivery of high-quality patient care and support during haemodialysis.
  • The post holder is expected to work within their own level of competence and assist in the preparation, provision of care and supervision of patients treated by haemodialysis.

Person Specification:

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of working in health or social care
  • Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalating changes or findings
  • Understanding the importance of robust, accurate, clear and timely documentation
  • Must be willing and able to work safely and effectively in a machine-based environment
  • Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision
  • Knowledge of safeguarding
  • Insights into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective teamwork
  • Understanding work-related boundaries
  • Awareness of GDPR and the need for confidentiality
  • Experience of working in the trust previously
  • Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies

Qualifications:

  • Level 3 vocational qualification or short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties or equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3.
  • Numeracy and literacy level 2.
  • Theoretical knowledge.
  • Experience of a range of care and related procedures.
  • Clinical observations.
  • Knowledge of data protection legislation and health and safety at work legislation.
  • National Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment.
  • Undertaken relevant additional training for Clinical Support Workers.
