Overview

To work as part of the Operational Team responsible for providing a comprehensive patient and non-patient support service in the hospital environment. Driving a range of vehicles to enable the carrying out of Transport Service functions: Delivery and collection of Healthcare related goods to external locations for the Trust; delivery and collection of Healthcare related goods within the Southmead Hospital campus; transportation of patients to home or other Healthcare establishments; transportation of staff, patients and visitors. To provide a high quality responsive, efficient and effective patient support service to wards and departments in North Bristol NHS Trust, acting in a caring and professional manner and working in line with Facilities and departmental operating procedures. A Full, Clean, UK Manual Driving license is essential for this post. To support Transport Services service level agreements, and other formal agreements / contracts, with both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Good verbal communication skills in order to clearly communicate with patient support team colleagues, supervisors, managers, ward staff, visitors and patients
  • Able to communicate and work in a sensitive and unobtrusive manner around patients
  • Ensuring that correct and safe methods of work are employed at all times with extra care shown to the safety of patients, staff and visitors
  • To drive a range of trust vehicles, electric and fuel powered
  • To undertake the movement of patients, staff and products in a professional, timely and considerate manner ensuring that the requirements of the service users are met, and promoting a good image for the trust
  • To undertake collection and delivery duties as allocated within the transport schedules including the delivery of items from the vehicle to the designated location; these items include but are not limited to:
  • o Diagnostic specimens (blood, urine)
  • o Post (Letters and parcels)
  • o Laundry (clean and soiled)
  • o Pharmacy (controlled and non controlled medicines)
  • o Sterile goods (Clean and soiled)
  • o Hazardous goods (Isotopes and Krypton)
  • o Waste (Domestic and clinical waste)
  • To maintain licenses required to drive trust vehicles and to report any offences or occurrences
  • To drive in accordance with the highway code at all times in a courteous and considerate manner
  • Receipt, delivery and storage of delivered healthcare related provisions in line with local policy
  • Transportation of the deceased to the mortuary (Ambulance duty only 9.00am to 6.00pm)
  • Collection, delivery and connection of medical gases
  • Collection, receipting and distribution of medical records to wards and departments
  • Ensuring that safety instructions are complied with when using cleaning products and equipment
  • Reporting any accidents/dangerous occurrences to the patient support team leaders /manager and participating in the completion of necessary accident form paperwork
  • Completion of timesheets and work logs /schedules or other attendance system as required
  • Carrying out duties in accordance with the Departmental Health & Safety Policy, the Health & Safety at Work Act and also Departmental Written Systems of Work
  • Carrying out safe hygiene practices and procedures in accordance with the Trust Policy and Codes of Practice
  • Attendance at relevant statutory and non statutory training, e.g. fire safety, food safety. To carry out other FM support service duties as appropriate and required
