Responsibilities

  • Function as Team Lead in the routine diagnostic section of the department taking responsibility for the day-to-day organisation of workload and activity and management of staff in that section. Ensure that all necessary actions are taken to ensure a prompt and high quality delivery of the service in the section.
  • Contribute and, when appropriate, lead discussions of workflow patterns and methodology to ensure the efficient running of the department. This will require close liaison with team leads in other sections.
  • Be responsible for resource management within their section, in particular: Ensuring adequate supplies of equipment, materials and reagents; Initiating the requisitioning of supplies; Prioritising work; Troubleshooting problems that occur; Day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in evaluation of new methods and equipment.
  • Work according to the regulations and codes of practice governing aspects of Health and Safety relevant to the department.

Experience and qualifications

  • Essential criteria: Minimum 2 years experience of working with a Beckman tracked analyser system
  • Essential criteria: Working in contingency procedures in a Biochem Auto Lab
  • Desirable criteria: Experience of troubleshooting a Beckman tracked analyser system
  • Desirable criteria: Leadership role in performing contingency procedures in a Biochem Auto Lab
  • Must be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
