Physiotherapy Support Worker — North Bristol NHS Trust

Overview

We have vacancies for physiotherapy support workers to support patients in one of the UK’s largest NHS Hospital Trusts. These roles will help patients regain mobility, function and confidence following surgery or illness, providing a range of therapy interventions to facilitate recovery and promote independence. The current vacancy is in the Vascular, Surgery and Renal team, with a caseload including patients post abdominal or lower limb surgery, including amputees.

Responsibilities

  • Working with a wide variety of patients across the wards
  • Working alongside physiotherapists to deliver therapy to patients and improve patients’ independence
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate discharge home from hospital (home is best)
  • Working within the physiotherapy teams where support and training will be provided
  • Treating patients referred by physiotherapists; organizing and implementing physical treatment sessions from treatment protocols, monitoring patient progress
  • Monitoring patient responses to physiotherapy programs, evaluating outcomes and adapting inputs as appropriate, working with patients toward recovery and discharge
  • Liaising with therapy staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Supporting administration to therapy teams with ordering of equipment and data input

Person specification

Education/Training/Essential criteria

  • Good standard of GCSE education
  • Evidence of literacy and numeracy skills

Work Experience

  • Essential: Previous NHS / Social Care / rehabilitation experience
  • Experience of working in a stressful environment

Desirable criteria

  • Previous physiotherapy technician/assistant experience
  • Experience working with relevant caseload – surgery, renal, vascular, amputees

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Good communication skills, verbal and written
  • Essential IT skills
  • Knowledge and awareness of disability
  • Evidence of teamwork
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology (desirable)
