Job Overview
North Bristol NHS Trust is a Major Trauma Centre covering a range of specialities including Plastics & Breast, Urology, General, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Metabolic & GI, Elective Orthopaedic, Neuro & Spinal, Vascular, Interventional Radiology, Emergency & Trauma. We operate 34 theatres (and 4 in the new Bristol Surgical Centre), supported by 72 medirooms and 4 traditional PACU facilities. The role is suitable for a Newly Qualified Operating Department Practitioner or a third‑year student who will qualify within the next six months. Candidates should be on target to complete or have completed the ODP programme within the next six months, or already hold an HCPC PIN.

Main Duties
The main duties of the role will be dependent on the speciality you are working within. Please refer to the attached Job Descriptions and Person Specifications for details.
Knowledge, Training, Experience and Skills Required
- Effective communication skills, verbal and written, including report writing and record keeping.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and multidisciplinary team.
- Effective computer/IT skills with expectation to develop according to service needs.
- Ability to undertake shift work (flexible options available).
- Contribution to team development.
- Sound knowledge of the guidelines set out in the NMC/HCPC code of professional conduct and current perioperative issues.
- Excellent organisational skills, proven ability to problem‑solve and remain calm under pressure.
Essential Criteria
- Registered ODP or a student due to qualify.
- Completed a variety of specialties during ODP training.
Desirable Criteria
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
