Job Overview
North Bristol NHS Trust is looking for a Housekeeper to join our ward Gate 26B Medicine. The role involves coordinating patient facilities and services within the ward, ensuring a safe, clean and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist with daily catering, including encouraging patients to order food, preparing & serving meals and snacks, and providing eating assistance.
- Prepare and serve hot/cold beverages, ensuring correct temperature and food hygiene standards are met.
- Maintain the ward kitchen and dining areas – wash equipment, manage food stock, label refrigerated items and ensure the area is tidy at all times.
- Coordinate meal requests for new admissions and discharge patients, liaising with ward staff to meet dietary requirements.
- Support the ward team in keeping the environment clean, monitoring the defect call log, and reporting maintenance issues to the support service helpdesk.
- Transport and dispose of clinical, domestic and confidential waste following policy procedures.
- Assist in regular equipment monitoring, ensuring all equipment is in good working order and that repairs are carried out in line with Trust policy.
- Maintain confidentiality, comply with the Trust’s Complaints Procedure and assist with training of staff on housekeeping standards.
- Provide general administrative support such as recording records, responding to information requests and maintaining paper-based records.
- Work flexible shifts covering Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays and periods of increased demand.
Person Specification
- Education: Maths/English Grade A‑C / 9‑4. Food Hygiene qualification/certification is desirable.
- Experience: Hospital experience in Catering or Housekeeping is desirable; hospitality experience also welcomed.
- Essential Skills: Good communication and customer service skills, team working, organisational ability, flexibility, adaptive mindset, and initiative.
- Willful commitment to maintaining a clean, safe environment and ability to work independently while supporting the multidisciplinary team.
