Overview
Based in Southmead Hospital Bristol (but clinics may be required at other local hospitals), the post holder will be provided with an opportunity to deliver care in one of Europe\\\’s leading hospitals facilities, as well as delivering out outpatient diagnosis and treatment for allergy. This role could be expanded to include inpatient supervision of allergy challenges, after appropriate training. North Bristol NHS Trust has been commissioned to provide services to Taunton, South Gloucestershire and Bath hospitals.
Responsibilities
- The successful applicant will play a key role in extending the NBT\\\’s Allergy and Immunology service and will work closely with Consultants and Specialist Nurses to meet increased demand for ambulatory care whilst also, if appropriate, supporting inpatient day admission procedures.
- It is a great opportunity to learn more about allergies and the immune system, to trial it for a possible career or to take the skills learnt into general practice.
- Responsibility for the outpatient care of patients in liaison with Consultant/Specialist colleagues.
- Running allergy clinics and allergy challenges (after appropriate training), independently but with reference to Consultants/Specialist as or if required.
- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff if appropriate.
- Professional supervision and management of Nursing staff as and when required.
- Teaching & Supervision of Junior Medical Staff and Students
- Teaching, examination and accreditation duties as requested by the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education and agreed with your clinical manager if required.

About the Department and Service
The Department of Immunology and Allergy is the regional unit for the Avon, Somerset, Gloucester and Wiltshire Area. It provides a full complement of Allergy services to this region. This includes Allergy clinics, Allergy Diagnostics, Allergy Challenges and Desensitisation. The service is delivered by 4 Consultants, 2 SPRs and 7 Specialist Nurses. The successful applicant would be expected to join this busy successful team and provide support services for them. The appointee will be expected to be fully involved in the developments of the Speciality, appertaining to Allergy, take account of the Trust policies, including Risk Management Strategy and developments in Clinical Governance.
The appointee may be asked to participate in other managerial and administrative work and will be expected to be aware of the broader context within the NHS in which Specialist doctors operate.
It is a requirement that if the employee has concerns about the professional performance of a member of the medical staff, they have a duty to speak to the person concerned. If the matter is potentially serious or satisfaction is not obtained with a direct approach, such concerns should be discussed with the Trust\\\’s Medical Director.
The appointee will be expected to be aware of the general and local budgeting issues within the NHS.
Additional information
We have a full range of allergy work, including diagnosis, treatment, desensitisation and challenge. We also have specialist drug allergy diagnosis. This is a great opportunity for someone to gain experience in allergy.
Full Registration with the GMC is essential. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Specialist Doctors (England).
