A new and exciting opportunity is available working in the Emergency Department at Southmead Hospital, where no two days are the same. We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident, reliable and competent individual who wishes to work in a very busy, yet rewarding role based in the centre of our Emergency Department. You must be self-motivated, be able to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate willingness to undertake and learn new tasks within a busy, and at times, demanding department. You will have varied development opportunities, learn new skills and work within a diverse and supportive team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Nurse in charge and Consultant in charge of the Emergency Department to facilitate the smooth operational running of the department, interfacing with the site team, Divisions, Trust wide and external NHS teams to achieve this. The Patient Flow Co-ordinator will support the Emergency Department to ensure accurate and timely data input and flow support in order to prevent unnecessary delays and improve patient experience. Full and part-time hours will be considered, although the needs of the service must be met. Please note that night shifts and weekends are included in the working pattern.

Main duties of the job

  • The Patient Flow Co-ordinator will be responsible for collating and organising all data pertinent to the operational running of the department, inclusive of ensuring the accurate and timely provision of information to be shared internally and externally and therefore informing decision making.
  • The post holder will facilitate discharges, escalate delays and support low wherever possible.
  • The successful candidate will have previously developed IT skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and excellent communication skills and will be familiar with the operational demands and performance metrics that the Emergency Department report against.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will provide a comprehensive, high quality and professional administration service to support the Emergency Department. The successful candidate will have a key role in chasing up the management of patients against the 4 hour target within the Emergency department and will act as a point of contact for the team providing diplomacy and tact when necessary, assisting in alleviating the daily demands placed on the team. These will include managing calls from the wards and visitors, logging departmental data and playing a key role in capturing actions when the hospital is in a high state of escalation. They will assist in the operational escalation process by providing administrative support in emergency zone huddles, noting actions and providing the necessary site information.
