Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our innovative and enthusiastic Diabetes and Endocrinology team. We provide a full range of diabetes and endocrine services including collaboration with the tertiary services provided at NBT: regional Pituitary and Adrenal surgery, Tier 3 Weight management as well as the Vascular Hub. Applicants are required to be on the specialist register for Diabetes and Endocrinology as well as General Internal Medicine, and have a CCT in both (or equivalent) or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. \”The job description is currently under review and pending approval from the Royal College.\” Main duties of the job: This fixed term post presents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic department practicing from a newly built, state of the art 800-bed hospital. You will join the existing WTE NHS Consultants providing Diabetes and Endocrinology service to our population of 500,000 in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. We are first and foremost seeking outstanding candidates to join our team. It should be noted that advanced sleep medicine and care of patients with pulmonary hypertension and cystic fibrosis are led by other hospitals in the region and are not services provided at NBT. We are principally looking for new colleagues with the ambition to help us evolve our models of care to deliver outstanding and personally delivered services to our patients.
Person Specification
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- Inclusion on the specialist register of the GMC and/or hold CCT in Diabetes/ Endocrinology or have an agreed date for it which is within 6 months of the date of the interview
Desirable criteria
- Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or PhD)
Training & Experience
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices
- Able to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of Diabetic and Endocrine conditions
Further Training, Management, Audit
- Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
- Knowledge of contemporary NHS structure and management issues
- Experience in audit project and written up
Research, Teaching, Publications
- Proven teaching ability.
- Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates & postgraduates.
Other Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team. To balance individual requirements against those of the directorate and trust as a whole
- Awareness and respect for cultural and religious beliefs
- Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within a team. Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff.
