Formed in 1941, Te WhÄnau Tupu NgÄtahi o Aotearoa â Playcentre Aotearoa is a licensed early childhood education provider and charitable trust. With a philosophy of empowering âparents as first educatorsâ, Playcentre seeks to empower whÄnau and tamariki to work, play, learn and grow together, and today has over 400 centres nationwide.
About the role
The session facilitator works alongside our members and tamariki to guide session activities, facilitate learning using child-led play and positive guidance, support planning and assessment for learning and positively support the Playcentre education programme.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Engage children in playful, stimulating, and imaginative experiences that encourage exploration, problem-solving, and independence.
- Foster strong, responsive relationships with tamariki, recognising their individual strengths, interests, and cultural diversity.
- Promote inclusive learning by encouraging communication, expression, and the development of positive learning dispositions.
Commencing 17 March 2026, Monday 9:15am - 1:15pm & Tuesday and Thursday 9:15am - 12:45pm, 11 hours per week, Permanent school term-time only position.
About you
The ideal candidate will be able to support parents and caregivers to confidently run sessions, model Playcentre philosophy, and enhance childrenâs learning, while fostering a strong whÄnau-led culture by building membersâ knowledge, confidence, and leadership.
You will also have:
- Strong knowledge of Te WhÄriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whÄnau to feel included and engaged.
- Confidence using technology to support learning and administration.
- Minimum Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification (L4 or above desired).
- Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be prepared to complete this.
- NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
