We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Procurement to lead and shape procurement across our growing care home organisation. This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving value, ensuring compliance, and delivering high-quality sourcing solutions that support exceptional resident care and safety.
About the Role
You will play a critical role in optimising supplier relationships, streamlining procurement operations, and embedding best practices across multiple sites.
Responsibilities
- Procurement Strategy
- Develop and implement a procurement strategy aligned with organisational goals and care sector regulations.
- Establish and maintain a robust category management framework.
- Lead procurement operations across multiple brands to drive efficiencies and cost savings.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including operations, finance, and hospitality.
- Develop and maintain procurement and contract management policies and procedures.
- Supplier & Contract Management
- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to achieve best value and quality.
- Monitor supplier performance through KPIs and resolve service issues.
- Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships.
- Lead tender processes and contract renewals.
- Ensure all contracts meet legal and regulatory requirements.
- Category Management
- Oversee procurement across key areas including: Food and catering supplies, Uniforms and staff identification, Medical and clinical consumables (including PPE), Laundry and housekeeping supplies, Utilities and waste management, Insurance, Agency staffing and specialist services.
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure procurement activities comply with relevant legislation and care sector standards.
- Support compliance with regulatory bodies such as CQC.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks.
- Maintain accurate records and audit trails.
- Budget & Financial Management
- Manage procurement budgets and monitor expenditure.
- Deliver measurable cost savings without compromising quality of care.
- Provide monthly performance reporting at board level.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the procurement team.
- Promote best practices across the organisation.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders, home managers, and external partners.
- Communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation.
- Support organisational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a senior procurement leadership role.
- Strong negotiation and contract management expertise.
- Experience managing procurement across multiple sites.
- Solid understanding of procurement regulations and supply chain management.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness.
- Experience using procurement and ERP systems.
Required Skills
- Experience within the care home or health and social care sector.
- Professional procurement qualifications.
- Knowledge of CQC standards and regulatory frameworks.

Pay range and compensation package
