North Air is responsible for providing into-plane services on behalf of major oil companies. We operate at 20 locations across the UK, where we carry out approximately 300 000 fuelling’s per year. We aim to provide safe, reliable and efficient into-plane services to our customers\’ satisfaction.

About the role:
This role has full responsibility for safety and operational performance of the site.
The holder of the role is expected to deliver excellent working relationships with all key stakeholders, customers, airport authorities and third-party suppliers. They will lead and manage the performance and development of direct reports including supervisors, operators, allocators and administrators.
Working as part of the wider North Air team, the post holder will be expected to contribute to and deliver our HSE goals and commitment to safety.
The role is Monday – Friday but there would be a requirement to come into site on the weekends for operational or business needs.
Key areas of Responsibility
People
- Manage, recruit and coach staff to ensure a highly skilled, flexible and well motivated operating team.
- As the first line manager take an active interest in all staff’s well being to ensure they are physically and mentally fit to carry out their duties, and if they are not seeking ways of facilitating a recovery.
- Manage employee relations and disciplinary procedures in accordance with Company policies, terms and conditions of employment, with assistance of the Regional Operations Manager and HR representative as necessary.
- Apply North Air’s key behavioural expectations. Ensure all staff meet and maintain these behaviours and take appropriate action when required.
- Advise Regional Operations Manager on manpower requirements to meet operational requirements.
Health and Safety
- Responsible for providing leadership and training in maintaining safe working environment and practices for all North Air staff on site. This also includes proactive action on HSE matters with related 3rd parties (e.g. Airport Ramp Safety Committee, Airport Authority, Airlines and Other Ramp Operators).
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of all contractors and visitors that attend site.
- Maintain an effective HSE management system to ensure operations comply with North Air HSE expectations and statutory requirements.
- Confirm standards through regular self-auditing of operation and individual staff performance.
- Ensure HSE management systems are reviewed and updated within the specified period and all records are kept in accordance with company and statutory requirements.
- Ensure all accidents/incidents/near misses are reported in accordance with company and statutory requirements and ensure they are adequately investigated, and necessary corrective and preventative measures carried out by agreed target dates.
Financial Responsibilities:
- Preparing annual operating budget challenging existing costs and methods where appropriate to continuously improve cost effectiveness of operation without compromising operational standards or level of customer service.
- Authorising any purchase or expenditure within the approved operational budget. Timely reporting on actual expenditure against planned expenditure advising reasons for any significant variance
- Stock Accounting: Maintaining accurate and up to date stock accounting records and advising suppliers of supply requirements and losses/gains,
- Capital Expenditure: Provide timely advice on expansion (or contraction) of the assets (tanks/vehicles) to continue to provide an efficient and secure fuelling operation in line with forecast demand and operational activity level
Relationships
- Responsible for customer service, monitoring performance of fuelling service to customers and reporting findings on any complaints and implementing any corrective or preventative measures to prevent re-occurrence.
- Regularly report to Regional Operations Manager / JV Management Committee on operations, implementing decisions taken by the Regional Operations Manager / North Air Management Team and contributing to strategic and operational plans for developing the business.
- Assist North Air Maintenance Manager or North Air Motor Inspector in co-ordinating necessary engineering and maintenance works.
General Accountabilities
- Legal Operating Agreements: Ensure that the operation complies with all requirements specified in relevant legal agreements between the company, partners, and authorities (airport authority, landlords, licence providers, HSE, CAA, Environmental Protection Agency).
- Systems: Introduce new methods/techniques and systems where necessary to further improve the operational or administrative standards or efficiency.
- Business Development: Assist Oil Companies and North Air Management Team in implementing business development plans
- Act as North Air’s senior local representative and maintain good relationships with customers, airport authorities and other relevant 3rd parties to help secure and develop the business.

Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years operational experience in a management or supervisory role in Distribution, Aviation or a related business
- Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
- Strong leader and ability to motivate a team.
- Good understanding of budgets and cost control
- Good common sense and practical problem solving
- Ability to communicate and engage effectively with all stakeholders
Desirable
- Previous Aviation Refuelling Experience
- Previous Airfield experience
- HGV Driving license.
